The way I describe myself after every NZLP retreat is ablaze. Before this experience, I was cruising; very content and happy, but cruising. Now I feel a compelling desire for something more.
I'm learning when to stay in the tension and when to prompt discussion toward a solution. I have used some of the framing questions and the techniques I've learned to guide conversations with my team, including a very successful workshop to agree on our vision and goals for the next FY. I'm developing my understanding of how collective systems work, feeling the vibe of a space both individually and collectively.
I'm enjoying exploring pace and space. Sometimes you need to slow down to speed up! I'm also learning to evaluate as a leader the significance of recognising the difference between when I can add value versus when I should step away; when I should teach versus when I should learn.
Our ako group is growing from strength to strength, and the more time we spend together, the more we appreciate one another and the different perspectives we bring to the table. This is a vital skill for anyone in a leadership role.
Every retreat is an incredible experience. I left retreat two feeling refreshed than retreat one, mainly because the first retreat stirred up a lot of emotion. This time I could fully relax and engage—such a good feeling. I am motivated more than ever to affect more positive change in my life and the lives of those around me—that can only be due to the magic in these sessions.
