It is with great sadness that we said farewell recently to PUAMIRIA MAAKA (NZ Leadership Programme, Alumna 2010).
Puamiria’s career encompassed leadership roles in local government and community development. She was known as a passionate warrior for her communities – a very special person with a huge heart.
The high regard in which she is held was demonstrated by the diversity and number of those attending her service at Takere marae, Okere Falls.
Puamiria is from Ngati Paruaharani, Ngati Hinerangi hapu and Ngati Pikiao iwi.
The words of a 2010 class mate, Dr. Chellie Spiller, say it all…“Moe mai ra e te rangatira Puamiria. He mihi aroha ki te whanau pani I te wa pouri nei”
I am remembering Puamiria's presence, her beautiful smile, her groundedness and generosity, her capacity to hold and include her compassionate strength.
